Royal Salute 21 Year Old The Signature Blend is a 40% ABV blended Scotch whisky produced within Chivas Brothers, part of Pernod Ricard, prepared from rare whiskies matured for at least 21 years. It is the flagship and first product of the Royal Salute brand.
What is the story of Royal Salute 21 Year Old?
The Signature Blend was created in 1953 as a gift to the new Queen, marking the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. According to the producer, the blend's recipe has not changed since that day. The whisky is presented in an iconic sapphire-blue glazed flagon-style bottle reminiscent of the stones in the Crown Jewels, and it has won numerous international awards.
What does Royal Salute 21 Year Old taste like?
On the nose, sweet pear and citrus fruits are balanced by the soft scent of autumn flowers; an elegant blend of vanilla and dry oak is joined by delicate sherry notes and a touch of smoke. On the palate, the warmth of orange marmalade and fresh pear is followed by an intense burst of spice and nuts; a soft smoke remains after the fruity intensity. The finish is long, dry and lightly spiced.
How should it be served, and what food does it pair with?
It suits slow, neat drinking or with a few drops of water; the producer also recommends it in light cocktails. Its fruity, spiced character pairs well with mature cheeses, dark-chocolate desserts and grilled red meat.
