Onegin Vodka Minyatür

Onegin is a lightly flavoured, 40% ABV premium vodka produced in Russia from wheat alcohol. It takes its name from Alexander Pushkin's verse novel "Eugene Onegin", completed in 1831. According to the producer, the vodka is made with crystal-clear water and a special wheat spirit, then passed through multi-stage fine filtration. The recipe includes infusions of almond, dried apricot and white raisin along with honey distillate and Bourbon vanilla; batches are made small. Difford's Guide notes that no sugar is added to the vodka and that the flavourings used are restrained enough that it does not count as a "flavoured vodka".

What does Onegin Vodka taste like?

The producer describes a pleasant sweetness on the first sip, arriving alongside almond tones and finishing with an elegant dryness. According to Difford's Guide's notes, the entry is very lightly sweet but quickly turns dry, continuing with anise, vanilla, toasted almond and a hint of black pepper. On the finish, vanilla-tinged toasted almond becomes more pronounced, leaving a trace of light anise and black pepper.

How is it served?

It can be drunk neat and chilled in small glasses, or served over ice. Its almond and vanilla touches also make it interesting in simple martini-style cocktails.

What food does it pair with?

In Russian dining tradition, premium vodkas are served with caviar, smoked fish and cold hors d'oeuvres. Its almond and honeyed tones also offer a balanced match with mature cheeses.
