Russian Standard Special Edition is a specially designed bottle of Russian Standard, the 40% ABV Russian wheat vodka produced in St Petersburg. Russian Standard was founded in 1998 by Rustam Tariko and is now part of Roust. The vodka is made with winter wheat grown on the Russian steppes and the soft, glacial water of Lake Ladoga; retailer sources state that the special editions share the same contents as the brand's standard vodka and are filtered through birch charcoal.
What does Russian Standard taste like?
According to Falstaff's assessment, the nose is fine, with a light salty-savoury character and a touch of vanilla. The palate is creamy and smooth, with delicate spice notes added. The finish is long, closing with a gradually emerging sweetness. Liquor.com also highlights a light sweetness from the wheat base, an unexpected sense of pepper, and an almost oily texture.
How is it served?
It can be drunk neat, ice cold, in small glasses. Its creamy, peppery structure also suits vodka-forward cocktails such as the Vodka Martini, and tonic- or soda-based long drinks. The special bottle design also makes it a popular choice as a gift.
What food does it pair with?
As in Russian dining tradition, it pairs well with caviar, smoked salmon, herring and pickles. Its creamy texture rounds out cold meze platters and seafood in a balanced way.
