Olmeca Silver (Blanco) is a clear tequila blanco at 35% ABV made from blue Weber agave in the high-altitude Los Altos region of Jalisco, from Pernod Ricard's Olmeca brand. It is bottled right after distillation, preserving the agave's fresh, fruity aromas. Tequilas in the blanco class are bottled without oak ageing, so agave's own flavour reaches the glass without cask influence.
What does Olmeca Silver taste like?
On the nose, fresh agave and citrus come together with light green herbs. On the palate it's soft and refreshing; sweet agave, lemon and a touch of pepper form a balanced taste. The finish is long, leaving a light spice and a fresh feel. Its rectangular bottle, decorated with symbols of the Olmec civilisation, is also one of the brand's recognisable elements.
How is it served?
It's often used as the base for cocktails such as the Margarita, Tequila Sunrise and Paloma. It can also be drunk neat with a slice of lemon and a pinch of salt; serving it cold is recommended.
Which foods does it pair with?
Light dishes such as ceviche, grilled fish and tacos suit its citrus-forward structure. Lemony salads and seafood meze platters are also good matches.
