Olmeca Dark Chocolate

Olmeca Dark Chocolate is a 20% ABV chocolate tequila liqueur made by flavouring Olmeca tequila with cocoa, produced at the Destilería Colonial de Jalisco in Mexico's Jalisco state for the Pernod Ricard group. Part of Olmeca's flavoured range, this drink combines tequila's agave character with the sweetness of bitter chocolate. Its alcohol content is notably lower than classic tequilas.

How is Olmeca tequila made?

Olmeca tequilas use traditional methods: agave hearts are cooked in stone ovens and crushed with volcanic stone millstones. For the Dark Chocolate variety, the silver version of this tequila is combined with chocolate aroma.

What does Olmeca Dark Chocolate taste like?

On the nose, sweet cocoa and cooked agave are pronounced, with a light vanilla sensed behind them. On the palate there is a soft, sweet body; the warming cocoa note is balanced by the tequila's agave tones. A lightly spiced sweetness remains on the finish. Its texture is silky.

How is it served, and what food does it pair with?

It can be used chilled as a shot, over ice, or in sweet cocktails; mixed with milk or coffee it turns into a chocolatey drink. Its cocoa-forward character pairs best with chocolate desserts: brownies, chocolate cake and chocolate ice cream make a good match. It also creates a balanced contrast with orange- or strawberry-based fruit desserts.
