Mortlach 12 Year Old The Wee Witchie is a 43.4% ABV, 12-year-old single malt Scotch whisky produced by the Mortlach Distillery, owned by Diageo, in Dufftown, Speyside. It takes its name from "Wee Witchie", the distillery's smallest but most essential still.
What makes Mortlach different?
Mortlach was the first distillery to be licensed in Dufftown, and is known for an intense character often described as rich and meaty. The producer describes the distillery's smallest still, Wee Witchie, as the most fundamental part of this character. The 12-year-old whisky is matured in both European and American oak casks, bringing out the distillery's rich, robust structure.
What does Mortlach 12 Year Old taste like?
The nose is rich and deep: a balance of oak and sandalwood, light spice, burnt caramel and red fruit. The medium-to-full-bodied palate is sweet and spicy; brown sugar, dark chocolate, cherry jam and a light tobacco note sit alongside Mortlach's characteristic meaty quality. The finish is soft and dry, leaving a bittersweet plum taste.
How should it be served, and what does it pair with?
The producer recommends adding a few drops of water to bring out its sweetness and distillery character. It makes a strong match with grilled red meat, lamb dishes and mature cheeses.

- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Keep wine bottles on their side and spirits upright.
- Serve white/rosé and sparkling wine at 6–12°C, and reds at 16–18°C.
- Keep opened bottles closed; drink wine within a few days of opening.
