Jack Daniel's Old No. 7

Jack Daniel's Old No. 7 is a Tennessee whiskey produced at the Jack Daniel Distillery in the town of Lynchburg, Tennessee, USA. The brand is owned by Brown-Forman. It is made using the sour mash method from a predominantly corn grain mix that also includes malted barley and rye, using iron-free water from the distillery's Cave Spring Hollow source.

What sets Tennessee whiskey apart from bourbon?

Before going into cask, the newly distilled spirit is filtered drop by drop through around three metres of sugar maple charcoal. Known as the Lincoln County Process, this method gives the spirit a softer, more balanced character. The whiskey is then matured in new, charred American oak casks. There is no age statement on the bottle.

What does Jack Daniel's Old No. 7 taste like?

It has a warm amber colour. On the nose, sweet vanilla, caramel and toasted oak are felt; on the palate, orange peel, brown sugar and light spice stand out. On the finish, a light smoky sweetness from the charcoal filtering, along with oak notes, lingers for some time.

How should it be served?

It can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or with a few drops of water. Alongside long drinks made with cola or ginger ale, it is also a frequently used base for classic cocktails such as the Lynchburg Lemonade and Old Fashioned. It pairs well with barbecued food, smoked dishes and barbecue-sauced platters.
