Hendrick's Lunar

Hendrick's Lunar is a 43.4% ABV limited-edition Hendrick's gin distilled at William Grant & Sons' Girvan site in Scotland. It was born when master distiller Lesley Gracie noticed how the scent of garden plants changes at night under moonlight; it is part of Hendrick's "Cabinet of Curiosities" series.

How is it made?

The brand's well-known two-still method is used: the full-bodied distillate from the Bennett still is combined with the more delicate, vapour-infused distillate from the Carter-Head still. Special essences added after distillation give the gin a warm character. Hendrick's signature notes of rose and cucumber are retained, joined by night-blooming flowers and warm citrus.

What does Hendrick's Lunar taste like?

It is a colourless, dry gin. It offers a warm, spiced palate, herbal notes and a pronounced gin character. Its floral side is softer and rounder than classic Hendrick's; the spice notes don't overwhelm the flowers.

How should it be served, and what does it pair with?

A gin and tonic made with cucumber slices and a little black pepper is recommended; it also suits drinking neat. Its spiced, floral character pairs well with grilled chicken, fish and seafood, and mature cheeses.
