Glenfiddich IPA Experiment

Glenfiddich IPA Experiment is a 43% ABV single malt Scotch whisky produced by the Glenfiddich Distillery, owned by William Grant & Sons, in Speyside. It is one of the first two bottles in the Experimental Series, which brings together the brand's experimental products, and completes its maturation in casks that previously held India Pale Ale (IPA) beer.

What does the IPA cask add to the whisky?

Speyside Craft Brewery prepared a special IPA for this whisky; the beer rested in Glenfiddich casks for a month. The emptied casks then returned to the distillery, and the whisky spent about three months completing its final maturation in them. The result is a lively, fruity malt; the beer cask's influence is felt on the palate as a light, leafy-green freshness.

What does Glenfiddich IPA Experiment taste like?

The nose combines barley sugar, lemon peel, brioche and dried apple rings with soft cinnamon and nutmeg. The palate has an oily texture with vanilla caramel and lemon cream standing out; a green, leafy freshness, oak spice, cocoa and light floral notes sit in the middle. The finish closes with crushed malt, a malted drink character and cocoa.

How should it be served, and what does it pair with?

Drinking it neat or with a few drops of water in a tulip-shaped glass opens the aromas well. Its fruity, citrusy character makes a pleasant match with grilled chicken, mature cheeses and fruit desserts.
