Glenfiddich Orchard Experiment is a 43% ABV single malt Scotch whisky produced by the Glenfiddich Distillery in Speyside. It is the fifth bottle in the Experimental Series and is presented as the first single malt to complete its maturation in Somerset Pomona casks.
What is a Somerset Pomona cask?
Somerset Pomona is an aromatic drink made in England's Somerset region by combining cider brandy with apple juice. Glenfiddich's Malt Master, Brian Kinsman, drew on this drink's orchard-like character and gave the whisky its final maturation in these casks. This finish gives the whisky a fruity, lively profile reminiscent of an apple and pear orchard.
What does Orchard Experiment taste like?
The nose shows fresh apple, pear, floral touches and light vanilla-sweet malt. The palate is fruity and lively: green apple, pear, honey and malt are joined by a delicate spice; caramel and oak spice also show through. The medium-length finish is soft, leaving fresh fruit and a light sweetness.
How should it be served, and what does it pair with?
Drinking it neat brings out its fruit character fully; a drop or two of water also opens the aromas. It makes a lovely match with fruit desserts such as apple tart and pear desserts, and with fresh cheeses.

- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Keep wine bottles on their side and spirits upright.
- Serve white/rosé and sparkling wine at 6–12°C, and reds at 16–18°C.
- Keep opened bottles closed; drink wine within a few days of opening.
