Glenfiddich 14 Year Old Bourbon Barrel Reserve is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Glenfiddich Distillery in Speyside, matured for 14 years in ex-bourbon casks and then given a final maturation in new charred American oak casks, bottled at 43% ABV.
How is it made?
The whisky's main maturation takes place in ex-bourbon casks. It is then transferred to new, deeply charred American oak casks; this final stage adds pronounced vanilla, caramel and spice notes reminiscent of the casks used in bourbon production. The result is a whisky that brings Glenfiddich's fruity character together with sweet, spicy tones reminiscent of American whiskey.
What does Glenfiddich 14 Year Old taste like?
According to an independent review, the nose shows warm buttery caramel, toasted marshmallow and cocoa nib, followed by cinnamon, candied orange peel and fresh citrus. The palate is led by sweet vanilla and peppery oak spice, followed by caramel apple, ripe red cherry and sweet malt. The finish leaves light vanilla and dry oak.
How should it be served?
It can be enjoyed neat, with a few drops of water, or with a single large ice cube; it is also an interesting choice for bourbon lovers.
What food does it pair with?
Its caramel, spicy character pairs well with barbecued meats, grilled red meat and dark chocolate desserts.
