Glenfiddich 15 Year Old Solera is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Glenfiddich Distillery in Speyside, made by combining whiskies matured for at least 15 years in a solera vat, bottled at 40% ABV.
What is the solera method?
Solera is a blending system known from sherry production. At Glenfiddich, whiskies matured in ex-bourbon casks, sherry casks and new oak casks are combined in a large wooden vat. This vat is never fully emptied, only topped up with new whisky as it is drawn from; this way, every bottle carries a trace of previous batches, keeping the character consistent.
What does Glenfiddich 15 Year Old taste like?
The nose shows heather honey, vanilla caramel and dark fruit standing out. The palate carries a sherry influence; marzipan, cinnamon and ginger arrive in layers, accompanied by a light spice. The finish is long and warming. It is a smoke-free, balanced whisky.
How should it be served?
It is recommended neat or with a few drops of water; its balanced character suits after-dinner sipping.
What food does it pair with?
Its honeyed, spicy character pairs well with mature cheeses, dark chocolate desserts and roasted nuts.
