Cutty Sark Original is the classic blend of the Cutty Sark brand, produced since 1923, a 40% ABV blended Scotch whisky. Today it belongs to the portfolio of the French La Martiniquaise-Bardinet group and is known for its pale colour and light, refreshing character.
What kind of whisky is Cutty Sark?
The blend is prepared by maturing select single malt whiskies separately from quality grain whiskies and then bringing them together. The brand describes this approach as giving a lighter body, a paler colour and pronounced vanilla tones; it emphasises that the whisky is designed especially for use in mixed drinks. Signed by master blender Stephen Woodcock, Original is also the starting point for the brand's other expressions, such as its 12-year-old.
What does Cutty Sark Original taste like?
On the nose, sherbet, creamy vanilla, lemon, freshly baked pastry and sweet grain notes are felt, joined by floral tones and a light black pepper. The palate is light and delicate: lemon, followed by grapefruit, fine pepper and a long wave of vanilla.
How should it be served, and what does it pair with?
It is preferred as a long drink with plenty of ice, soda or ginger ale, or in highball cocktails; it can also be enjoyed neat as an aperitif. Its light character offers a balanced pairing with grilled chicken, seafood and meze platters.

- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Keep wine bottles on their side and spirits upright.
- Serve white/rosé and sparkling wine at 6–12°C, and reds at 16–18°C.
- Keep opened bottles closed; drink wine within a few days of opening.
