Clynelish 10 Year Old is a limited-edition single malt Scotch whisky from the Clynelish Distillery in the Highlands, matured exclusively in first-fill bourbon casks for Diageo's 2023 Special Releases series and bottled at cask strength, 57.5% ABV.
What kind of whisky is it?
Clynelish is known among whisky lovers for its "waxy" texture. Maturing without any sherry influence, solely in first-fill bourbon casks, this 10-year-old release shows the distillery's classic fruity, waxy character in its purest form. Bottled undiluted, it is intense and powerful.
What does Clynelish 10 Year Old taste like?
According to independent reviews, the nose shows honeyed grain, vanilla and wax notes, followed by orange, banana, charred pineapple and lemon sugar, with light pepper and fresh mint. The palate combines lemon, rhubarb, blood orange, small red fruits and apple juice with a pronounced salinity; the waxy texture, salted caramel, nectarine and pineapple give it a lightly tropical character, with garden herbs and walnut appearing at the end. The finish is medium in length, spicy and citrusy.
How should it be served?
As it is bottled at cask strength, it is best tasted neat first, then opened up with a few drops of water.
What food does it pair with?
Its citrusy, salty character pairs well with fish and seafood, mature cheeses and nuts such as walnut.
