Auchentoshan American Oak is a no-age-statement, triple-distilled single malt Scotch whisky from the Auchentoshan Distillery in the Lowlands, matured exclusively in first-fill bourbon casks and bottled at 40% ABV. It replaced the distillery's Classic expression in 2014.
How is it made?
Auchentoshan triple-distils its spirit to achieve a light, clean character. In American Oak, this spirit rests in American oak casks that had previously held bourbon just once; the first-fill cask gives the whisky pronounced vanilla, coconut and caramel notes.
What does Auchentoshan American Oak taste like?
The nose shows caramel popcorn, sweet oak-derived spice, candied orange peel and lemon zest, with a light grassy note. The palate is silky and soft; coconut and caramel stand out, accompanied by sweet spice. On the finish, sweet spice and caramel remain, joined by a citrusy freshness.
How should it be served?
It can be used neat, on ice, or in long drinks made with soda or ginger ale; its light, sweet character suits cocktails.
What food does it pair with?
Its vanilla-forward, sweet character pairs well with grilled chicken, fruit desserts and roasted nuts.
