1752 Spiced Black

1752 Spiced Black is a rum-based flavoured spirit drink at 35% ABV, made by Amber Latvijas balzams, the producer of Latvia's famous herbal drink Riga Black Balsam. It combines herbal infusions with dark Caribbean rum, orange and vanilla notes and a spice blend.

BLACK in the name refers to its dark colour, while 1752 refers to the founding year of the Riga Black Balsam brand. The producer describes this drink as a contemporary take that brings classic Riga Black Balsam closer to fans of spiced rum. As its alcohol content is below 37.5%, it falls into the rum-based flavoured spirit drink category rather than rum.

What does 1752 Spiced Black taste like?

The herbal depth from the balsam tradition is balanced by the citrus freshness of orange and the soft sweetness of vanilla. The spice blend gives it a warm character, while the dark rum adds roundness to the body.

How is it served?

The producer recommends drinking it chilled as a shot or with a favourite mixer; its best-known pairing is cola over ice. Ginger ale also complements its spiced character.

Which desserts does it pair with?

Orange and vanilla notes go well with orange-flavoured dark chocolate and cocoa-based desserts. Fruit-based desserts such as cinnamon-apple treats or dried-fruit cakes also suit its spiced character.
