Dead Man's Fingers Spiced Rum is a spiced rum at 37.5% ABV, made by combining blended Caribbean rums with spices. It was born at the Rum & Crab Shack seafood restaurant in St Ives, Cornwall, England; the brand is today part of the Halewood group.
Its unusual name comes from the finger-shaped gills inside a crab: these parts, popularly believed to be poisonous if eaten, are known as dead man's fingers. The rum won gold medals at the 2022 and 2023 San Francisco World Spirits Competition and is suitable for a vegan diet.
What does Dead Man's Fingers Spiced Rum taste like?
The brand highlights notes reminiscent of Cornish saffron cake and Pedro Ximénez ice cream. Vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, pineapple and orange are detectable on the nose. On the palate, creamy caramel, vanilla and raisin combine with a light sweetness of orange; a touch of black pepper is also perceptible. The finish is lightly warming, spiced and lightly sweet.
How is it served?
It can be drunk neat, over ice or in cocktails. Its orange note means it mixes easily with cola, ginger ale and many cocktails.
Which foods does it pair with?
Its spiced character pairs well with barbecue and barbecue-sauced meats. On the sweet side, raisin, cinnamon or chocolate-based desserts make a fitting accompaniment.
