Captain Morgan Original Spiced Gold is the best-known product of Diageo's Captain Morgan brand: a rum-based flavoured spirit drink at 35% ABV, made by flavouring Caribbean rum with vanilla, other natural flavourings and spices. As its alcohol content is below 37.5%, in many markets it is labelled as a spirit drink.
What does Captain Morgan Spiced Gold taste like?
According to the producer's notes, rich natural vanilla, brown sugar, dried fruit and warming spices come together with a light oak touch, reaching a balanced, smooth finish. In some markets, Madagascan vanilla is highlighted; cinnamon, clove, caramelised sugar and honey notes are also described.
How is it served?
Its most notable quality is its versatility: it can be used hot or cold, in sweet, fruity or creamy drinks. The brand's suggested simple serve is a glass full of ice with lemonade and a squeezed slice of lemon. The classic mix with cola is also very common.
Which foods does it pair with?
Vanilla and spice notes pair well with barbecued meats and barbecue-sauced dishes. On the sweet side, cinnamon-apple desserts, caramel- or fruit-based sweets make a fitting accompaniment.
