Rodnik's Absinth Bohemian Blue is a blue-coloured absinthe with 70% ABV, produced by Beveland Distillers in Spain. Also referred to by the producer as "Bohème Blue", this version reinterprets classic absinthe with its striking blue colour. Its recipe is built around wormwood (Artemisia absinthium), aniseed and fennel, rounded out by other aromatic herbs.
What does Rodnik's Bohemian Blue taste like?
The nose is intense, herbal and aromatic, with wormwood, aniseed and sweet fennel to the fore. The palate is full and rich: a pronounced aniseed base is joined by the light bitterness of wormwood and a spicy touch from the herbs. The finish is long and warming, leaving a fresh herbal taste after a sweet-spicy close.
How is it served?
In the classic French method, about 3 cl of absinthe is poured into a glass, and ice-cold water is slowly dripped, in a ratio of roughly 1:3 to 1:5, over a sugar cube set on an absinthe spoon resting over the glass. As the water is added, the drink turns cloudy and the herbal aromas open up. A more practical option is to serve it over ice with a slice of lemon or lime, or as an absinthe-tonic with tonic, mint and citrus. Because of its 70% ABV, drinking it neat is not recommended.
What food does it pair with?
Diluted with water, absinthe pairs well as an aperitif with a meze platter, much like other aniseed spirits. Its fennel and aniseed notes also suit light dishes such as seafood and lemon-dressed salads.
