Rodnik's Absinthe 85° Strong is an 85% ABV, anise-flavoured absinthe produced by Beveland Distillers in Catalonia, Spain. Its label carries the description "Aniseed Flavoured Spirit". The Rodnik's range consists of several absinthes at different strengths; 85° Strong is the highest-alcohol version in the range.
What kind of drink is Rodnik's 85 Strong?
According to the producer, Rodnik's is a high-alcohol, aromatic drink obtained from various Mediterranean herbs, primarily wormwood (Artemisia absinthium). Seller descriptions note that Rodnik's absinthe has a softer anise aroma than its French counterparts. The producer has not published detailed tasting notes for this product; its character is defined by wormwood and anise.
How is it served?
The producer notes that absinthe is traditionally drunk mixed with water and sugar. A small amount of absinthe is placed in the glass, and ice-cold water is added slowly over a sugar cube on a slotted spoon; as water is added, the drink turns cloudy. Given its very high alcohol content of 85%, it should never be drunk neat and must always be diluted with plenty of water.
What food does it pair with?
It can be served with cold mezze platters, as with other anise-based drinks diluted with water. Its anise character is also well suited to bitter chocolate desserts.
