Oban 11 Year Old Special Release 2023 is a 58% ABV, 11-year-old single malt Scotch whisky produced by the Oban Distillery, owned by Diageo, on Scotland's west Highland coast. It is the 2023 release of Diageo's limited Special Releases collection.
What makes this release different?
Oban 11 Year Old completes its final maturation in Caribbean pot-still rum casks. The collection was presented under the theme "Spirited Xchange", inspired by cultural exchange between world cultures; this bottle's packaging reflects Caribbean carnival culture. The rum casks add tropical notes such as sugar cane and mango to Oban's character, which combines Highland and island styles. The whisky is bottled at cask strength.
What does Oban 11 Year Old SR 2023 taste like?
The nose shows sea breeze, citrus, light tropical fruit and a dry spice. The palate has an oily, smooth texture with a lively sweetness, rich fruitiness and a light salinity; mango, cinnamon, allspice and salted caramel stand out. The finish closes with a persistent spice.
How should it be served, and what does it pair with?
The producer recommends neat drinking; a few drops of water open the aromas due to its cask strength. It makes a lively match with fish and seafood, spicy dishes and fruit desserts.
