Hennessy V.S.O.P is a 40% ABV VSOP Cognac from the Hennessy house in Cognac, France, based on a blend created in 1817 to order for the future King George IV of England. The blend is the work of the house's first master blender, Jean Fillioux; the Fillioux family has held this role for eight generations. Hennessy belongs to Moët Hennessy, the wine and spirits division of the LVMH group.
What does Hennessy V.S.O.P taste like?
Its colour shows a lively glow between ruby and amber. On the nose, sweet, fresh apricot stands out. On the palate, a full vanilla meets soft oak; the result is a smooth, balanced drink that leaves a lasting impression. Hennessy describes this blend as the product of two centuries of expertise in the careful maturing and blending of selected eaux-de-vie.
How is it served?
The producer recommends V.S.O.P neat, with ice, or in long drinks and cocktails. Tasting it first neat at room temperature in a tulip-shaped glass is a good way to get to know its aromas; a single large ice cube then softens the apricot and vanilla notes.
What food does it pair with?
The apricot and vanilla notes pair well with fruit tarts and chocolate desserts. The soft oak character also makes a balanced match with mature hard cheeses.
