Gautier VSOP

Gautier VSOP is a 40% ABV VSOP Cognac blended by Maison Gautier, which has operated in the town of Aigre in Charente since 1755, from the Petite Champagne, Fins Bois and Bons Bois regions. The eaux-de-vie, obtained from Ugni Blanc grapes, are matured for at least four years in French oak barrels in naturally humid cellars set in an old water mill on the Osme river. Founded under royal licence, the house is one of the oldest Cognac houses and belongs to the Marie Brizard Wine & Spirits group.

What does Gautier VSOP taste like?

It is amber in colour. Its nose gives a rich impression through the harmonious combination of honey, fig and vanilla. On the palate it is round and balanced; woody notes combine with cinnamon and apricot. For the spirit, which won gold at the 2015 IWSC, the jury noted a long, fruity finish with dried fruit, biscuit, bitter chocolate and warm spices.

How is it served?

The producer recommends Gautier VSOP neat with ice as an aperitif or in cocktails. Trying it first, plain, in a tulip-shaped glass, is also a good way to get to know its character.

What food does it pair with?

The producer pairs this VSOP with scallops and oysters; light seafood platters make a good match. Its honey and fig notes also make a balanced accompaniment to mature cheeses.
