Courvoisier VSOP is a 40% ABV VSOP cognac in which the house of Courvoisier, founded by Félix Courvoisier in the town of Jarnac in 1828, blends eaux-de-vie from four crus. The blend includes distillates from the Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies and Fins Bois regions; the producer states that the eaux-de-vie mature for up to twelve years in the house's own barrels. Courvoisier is now part of the Campari Group.
What does Courvoisier VSOP taste like?
The producer describes a lightly floral, layered profile in which late-ripening stone fruit comes to the fore. Time spent in barrel lends spice notes reminiscent of gingerbread and a silky finish. Independent reviews also mention notes of oak, coffee, caramel, dried fruit and cedar. The balance between fresh fruit and oak makes it versatile for both sipping neat and mixing in cocktails.
How should it be served?
It can be drunk at room temperature in a tulip-shaped glass, neat or with a single ice cube. The producer also recommends VSOP in classic cognac cocktails such as the Sidecar; it is also frequently used in cocktails made with champagne.
Which foods does it pair well with?
Its stone-fruit, spiced character makes a well-balanced match for mature hard cheeses, dark chocolate desserts and roasted nuts.
