Efes Xtra is a high-strength 7.5% ABV lager beer produced in Turkey by Anadolu Efes. Also known by its former name Efes Extra, this beer is brewed entirely from malt; its ingredients are water, barley malt, hops and yeast. Anadolu Efes is the company that began brewing beer in 1969 and is today Turkey's leading beer producer.
What kind of beer is Efes Xtra?
Efes Xtra sits in the strong lager class thanks to an alcohol content noticeably higher than standard lagers. In this style the body is fuller and the drink harder; the warmth of the alcohol is felt on the palate. In international beer classifications, this style is known as "European strong lager".
How should it be served?
It is served cold; as an overly icy temperature can mute the malt aroma, refrigerator-cold is enough. Given its high alcohol content, slow sipping and drinking water alongside it are recommended.
What does Efes Xtra pair well with?
Its strong, full character is balanced by richly flavoured dishes. Barbecued meats, kebabs and spiced plates are good matches. Light salads and delicate seafood can be overshadowed by this beer.
