Dictador 12 Yıl

Dictador 12 is an aged rum at 40% ABV, produced at the Dictador house run by three generations of the Parra family in Cartagena de Indias on Colombia's Caribbean coast. The blend consists of rums aged between five and twelve years; the brand also offers this product today under the name Dictador D12.

How is Dictador 12 made?

The rums are matured in American oak casks using a solera system, in which rums of different ages are progressively blended together. The number 12 on the label refers to the oldest rums in the blend. The producer states that the rum is made from sugar cane honey rather than molasses; the blend was developed by Dictador's head blender, Hernan Parra Arango.

What does it taste like?

On the nose, maple syrup, tobacco and leather appear, followed by soft caramel and medium-intensity oak. On the palate, fruit and honey bursts combine with creamy spice. The finish leaves light oak, deep cigar tobacco and coffee.

How is it served?

It's recommended to drink it neat or with a single large ice cube, in a tulip-shaped glass. It also retains its character in rum-forward cocktails such as the Old Fashioned.

Which foods does it pair with?

Its coffee and tobacco notes pair very well with dark chocolate desserts. Mature hard cheeses and roasted nuts also bring out the rum's honey and caramel side.
