Crystal Head Vodka is a 40% ABV, additive-free corn vodka produced by Globefill in Newfoundland, Canada. Created in 2008 by actor Dan Aykroyd and artist John Alexander, the brand is known for its skull-shaped crystal bottle.
How is Crystal Head made?
The original Crystal Head is made from locally sourced Canadian corn. The corn is distilled four times into neutral grain alcohol and blended with pure Newfoundland water. The vodka is filtered seven times; three of these filtrations pass through layers of a semi-precious quartz crystal known as "Herkimer diamond". The producer emphasises that no additives such as glycerine, citrus oil or sugar are added to the vodka.
What does Crystal Head taste like?
The nose carries neutral grain aromas accompanied by a light citrus touch. On the palate, a silky, smooth texture, a light sweetness and vanilla are felt. The finish is sweet and creamy.
What is the story behind the bottle?
The skull-shaped bottle was inspired by the founders' interest in the legend of the thirteen crystal skulls. The bottle is produced in Europe, and crystal pieces are melted into the glass to enhance clarity.
What does Crystal Head pair with?
Served cold and neat, it pairs with smoked fish and seafood, and its lightly sweet, creamy finish also matches fruit-based desserts. It retains its character in simple cocktails such as the Vodka Martini or vodka and tonic.
