Catrina Cerámica Añejo is an añejo tequila at 38% ABV made from 100% blue Weber agave, from La Cofradía's Edición Catrina range, one of Mexico's well-established tequila producers. La Cofradía, whose name means brotherhood in Spanish, has more than fifty years of experience in tequila production.
What's the story behind the bottle?
The tequila is presented in a handmade, hand-painted ceramic bottle. The design is inspired by La Catrina, the iconic figure of Mexico's Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) celebrations; colourful skull motifs make each bottle a collectible object.
What does it taste like?
After the agave hearts are roasted, the spirit is distilled twice and aged in oak casks for longer than reposado tequilas. On the nose, the dark golden tequila carries toasted oak, sweet vanilla and caramel, meeting the spiced hints of agave. On the palate, a full, velvety structure is felt; ripe agave, caramel, chocolate and a touch of cinnamon are detectable. The finish is long, soft and layered with toasted notes.
How is it served?
To show its layered aromas, it's recommended neat, lightly chilled or at room temperature, in a wide-bowled glass. It can also be used in cocktails such as an Añejo Old Fashioned.
Which foods does it pair with?
Dark chocolate, roasted nuts and mature, sharp-flavoured cheeses are this tequila's best accompaniments.
