Cardhu Gold Reserve is a no-age-statement, 40% ABV single malt Scotch whisky from the Cardhu Distillery in Speyside. According to the producer, it is fruitier and warmer in style than the brand's classic 12-year-old whisky.
What kind of whisky is it?
Cardhu, known for its soft, sweet-natured whiskies, is one of Speyside's oldest distilleries. Gold Reserve, also referred to as "Cask Selection", is prepared from whiskies chosen from toasted oak casks, which give it notes reminiscent of caramelised apple. Its initial sweetness is balanced by the liveliness of orange peel and a light mineral dryness.
What does Cardhu Gold Reserve taste like?
The nose shows caramel and apple notes standing out. On the palate it is rich-textured, balanced and smooth; sweet fruit, dark chocolate, caramel and spice are felt together. The palate is quite dry, carrying biscuity oak and a light cinnamon note.
How should it be served?
The producer recommends it neat or with a little water in a wide-bowled glass; served on ice, fresh fruity notes emerge.
What food does it pair with?
Its caramel, fruity character pairs well with apple and other fruit desserts, mature cheeses and roasted nuts.

- Richly textured and balanced; sweet fruit, dark chocolate, caramel and spice; dry, biscuity oak and a hint of cinnamon.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Keep wine bottles on their side and spirits upright.
- Serve white/rosé and sparkling wine at 6–12°C, and reds at 16–18°C.
- Keep opened bottles closed; drink wine within a few days of opening.
