Bols Blue Curaçao

Bols Blue Curaçao is a 21% ABV Dutch liqueur produced by Amsterdam-based Lucas Bols, flavoured with orange peel and coloured a vivid blue. Bols traces its roots to a distillery opened in Amsterdam in 1575, and claims to be the world's oldest distillery brand; Blue Curaçao is one of its oldest and best-known liqueurs.

What does Bols Blue Curaçao taste like?

According to the producer, the liqueur is made with a distinctive type of orange peel and a botanical infusion. On the nose, abundant, aromatic orange is felt, with a light touch of mandarin behind it. On the palate, fresh, lightly tart orange flavours come forward; the sweetness is balanced by the citrus's lively edge. Once also known as Crème de Ciel, the liqueur is a vegan product.

How is it served?

Blue Curaçao is above all a cocktail liqueur: it gives summer cocktails such as the Blue Hawaii, Blue Lagoon and Margarita Azul both an orange taste and its striking blue colour. It can also be used in spritz-style mixes made with prosecco, or in long drinks lengthened with lemonade and soda.

What desserts does it pair with?

Its citrus aroma makes a natural match with fruit desserts. It is a light complement to fruit salad, lemon or orange tarts and sorbet; a few drops can also be used to add colour and orange aroma to fruit desserts.
