Sunset Reef Coconut Rum

Sunset Reef Coconut Rum is a 21% ABV sweet liqueur with a rum base and coconut flavour, made by Toorank International Spirits in Zevenaar, the Netherlands. Although "rum" appears in the name, since its alcohol content is below the level required for rum, it is classified as a liqueur; the producer markets it as a coconut- and rum-flavoured liqueur. It is also sold in Europe under the names "Coconut & Rum" or "Coco & Rhum".

What does Sunset Reef taste like?

The nose shows a pronounced coconut aroma, with vanilla and toasted coconut tones behind it. On the palate, an intense coconut-water taste leads; because of its sweetness, it drinks much more smoothly than classic rum. An independent review noted that it retains its aroma more distinctly in mixed drinks than comparable coconut liqueurs.

How is it served?

It is used mostly in long drinks and cocktails: it can be lengthened with plenty of ice and pineapple juice or cola, or used as a coconut base in tropical cocktails such as piña colada. It can also be drunk neat over ice.

What food does it pair with?

Its tropical character pairs well with fruity desserts, especially pineapple- and mango-based sweets and fruit salad. Alongside spicy dishes, it can also be chosen as a refreshing, sweet long drink.
