Bellapais Strawberry Liqueur is a strawberry-flavoured fruit liqueur produced by Sema İçkileri, based in Famagusta, Northern Cyprus. It is the strawberry member of the company's Bellapais liqueur range (Bellapais is also the name of a historic village near Kyrenia), recognisable by its red colour and strawberry-illustrated label.
Sema İçkileri was founded in 1975 by Selim Süren and describes itself as Northern Cyprus's oldest drinks factory. The company launched its first product as a Cyprus brandy and began raki production in 1979. Today its range includes liqueurs in flavours such as strawberry, orange, sour cherry, peach, banana, mint, coffee and fig.
Fruit liqueurs are generally drunk well chilled in small glasses, neat or over ice, as an after-dinner liqueur. They can be lengthened with soda or lemonade for a light long drink, and can also be used to add colour and sweetness to fruit cocktails.
Its strawberry flavour forms a natural match with fruit desserts. It can be served chilled in a small glass alongside fresh fruit platters, strawberry cakes and vanilla ice cream; drizzling a few drops over plain ice cream is also a popular use.
