Andes Cabernet Sauvignon is a 13% ABV dry red wine offered by the German wine company Peter Mertes from Chile's Valle Central (Central Valley) region. It is made from single-varietal Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, presented without a stated vintage, and sold in a screw-capped Bordeaux-style bottle. Thanks to its thick skins, Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the world's most widely grown red grapes, producing wines rich in colour and tannin.
Why does the Valle Central matter?
Stretching along the foothills of the Andes, the Valle Central is Chile's largest wine-producing area. Cool nights following warm, sunny days help Cabernet Sauvignon retain freshness as it ripens; the region is known for its fruit-forward, easy-drinking reds as a result.
What does Andes Cabernet Sauvignon taste like?
The nose shows red fruits such as raspberry and redcurrant, with a touch of black pepper. The palate has a velvety texture; the variety's characteristic spiciness is balanced by fruit.
How should it be served, and what food does it pair with?
It is suitable to serve at 16–18°C. It pairs well with grilled lamb, steak and barbecued red meats; hard, mature cheeses such as cheddar also complement the wine's fruity, spicy character.
