Gato Negro Carmenère is a dry red wine made from Carmenère grapes in the Valle Central (Central Valley) region of Chile, under the Gato Negro brand of Viña San Pedro, one of Chile's established wineries. Founded in 1865, San Pedro is today part of VSPT Wine Group.

What is Carmenère?

Carmenère is a red grape variety originally from Bordeaux but today identified above all with Chile. For many years in Chile it was mistaken for Merlot before being recognised as a separate variety. It typically produces deeply coloured wines with pronounced fruit and soft tannins.

What does Gato Negro Carmenère taste like?

The producer describes this wine as fruity and intense, with rich texture and aroma. Notes of blueberry, blackberry and coffee stand out on the nose and palate. Touches of ripe plum and spice, together with soft tannins, give it an easy-drinking profile.

How should it be served, and what food does it pair with?

It is suitable to serve at 16–18°C. The producer recommends pairing it with pork, cheeses and spiced dishes. Grilled meats, spiced meatballs and barbecue tables are also good accompaniments for this fruity red.
