Saki Rakı Siyah is a 45% ABV Turkish raki produced at Sezer Holding's facilities in Salihli, Manisa, distilled entirely from black grapes, with no sugar. Known as Siyah Üzüm Rakısı (Black Grape Raki), it is now offered in the brand's current range under the name Mor Üzüm.
How is Saki Siyah made?
Black grapes are fermented with their seeds in tanks; the resulting suma is distilled with aniseed in copper stills. The raki is rested for a long period and filtered repeatedly before bottling. An earlier edition won a silver medal in San Francisco.
What does Saki Siyah taste like?
It whitens well when water is added. Intense aniseed and grape alcohol form a balanced pairing on nose and palate. It is full, intense and lingers in the mouth; old raki drinkers describe its texture as "creamy".
How is it served?
Well chilled, it is drunk with cold water or neat in a narrow-waisted glass; ice is added last. Those who drink it neat can keep a glass of cold water alongside.
What food does it pair with?
Because of its full structure, it goes well with bold flavours such as grilled meat, köfte and kebab. It also pairs easily with white cheese, melon and yoghurt-based mezes at the classic meze table.
