Highland Park Cask Strength is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Highland Park Distillery on the Orkney Islands, bottled at cask strength, meaning undiluted with water. The bottle sold in Europe is Release No.4 in the series, bottled at 64.3% ABV.
What makes Release No.4 different?
This release brings together whiskies matured in sherry-seasoned European and American oak casks, a small number of refill casks and bourbon casks, along with — for the first time in the series — whiskies matured in port wine casks. The result is an intense, powerful malt with a rose-gold colour. Cask-strength whiskies can vary in alcohol content and character from release to release.
What does Highland Park Cask Strength taste like?
The nose shows toasted coconut, crushed lemon, cedar wood, honey reminiscent of Turkish delight and peat smoke. The palate balances pink grapefruit and rosewater with earthy charred oak and heather peat. The long finish leaves sun-dried exotic spices, sweet liquorice and floral peat smoke.
How should it be served, and what does it pair with?
Due to its high strength, tasting it with a very small amount, then a few drops of water, helps open the aromas. It offers a match befitting its powerful character alongside mature cheeses, grilled red meat and dark chocolate.
