Henkell Trocken

Henkell Trocken is an 11.5% ABV dry (trocken) sparkling wine from the German sparkling wine (Sekt) brand Henkell. Combining the French cuvée tradition with German winemaking craft, it is made by blending four wines from select grape varieties. Part of the Henkell Freixenet group, Henkell states it has followed this approach for around 160 years.

How is it made?

One of the four wines making up the blend is Chardonnay; the others are selected from traditional wine regions. The second fermentation takes place using the Charmat method, in pressurised tanks. It is bottled in the "trocken", or dry, category with a dosage of 22 grams per litre.

What does Henkell Trocken taste like?

It has a pale yellow colour with green reflections and fine bubbles that last a long time. The nose is fresh and fruity; green apple, banana and citrus notes are lightly felt. The palate offers a harmonious balance of sweet and sour; its medium-to-full body and persistent finish give a mature drink.

How should it be served, and what does it pair with?

It is served well chilled in a flute glass. The producer particularly recommends pairing it with spiced main courses from Asian and Indian cuisine. It is also a frequent choice as an aperitif and at celebrations.
