Conte Camillo Negroni

Conte Camillo Negroni is a 30% ABV, bottled, ready-to-drink cocktail combining gin, red vermouth and Italian bitter in the classic Negroni ratio. Legend has it that the drink takes its name from Count Camillo Negroni, who in 1919 asked for his Americano at Caffè Casoni in Florence to be strengthened with gin instead of soda. According to label information, it is prepared at Distillerie Francoli in Italy's Piedmont region.

Which ingredients is it made with?

According to the brand's description, the gin draws on water from the Acqueverdi waterfall, high-altitude juniper, gentian, wild mallow and mountain roses. The red vermouth is a wine from the Aosta Valley, flavoured with mountain mint, wormwood and mountain thyme. The handcrafted bitter contains wormwood, gentian, elderflower, orange peel and liquorice root.

What does Conte Camillo Negroni taste like?

Bright red in colour, the cocktail's nose combines strong juniper and mountain herbs with the deep, oxidative sweetness of red vermouth. On the palate, the bitterness of gentian and rhubarb is balanced by the gin's spiced warmth, with a round, wine-derived sweetness tying them together. The finish is long and herbal.

How is it served, and what does it pair with?

The recommended serve is over a single large ice cube, garnished with orange peel. It works well as an aperitif with mature cheeses, grilled meats and Italian-style meze platters.
