Centenero Amarone della Valpolicella is a 15% ABV Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG red wine made by Cielo e Terra of Veneto under its Cielo1908 brand. All of the grapes are dried using the appassimento method, and the wine undergoes a three-year ageing process. The producer presents this wine as one of its signature releases, celebrating the family's 100-year winemaking history.
What is Amarone?
Amarone is an intense, powerful red wine made in the Valpolicella area north of Verona, from grapes dried for a period after harvest. Drying concentrates the sugar and aromatic intensity in the grapes, producing high-alcohol, full-bodied and complex wines.
What does Centenero Amarone taste like?
It is ruby coloured. The nose offers plum, cherry, blueberry jam and red rose notes, followed by tones of coffee, cinnamon and bitter chocolate. The palate is soft and balanced, with silky tannins and a full, chewy structure. Memories of red fruit and cocoa linger long on the finish.
How should it be served, and what food does it pair with?
The producer recommends serving at 16–18°C. It suggests pairing with rich dishes such as wild boar, Moroccan-style lamb, pork fillet with prunes, braised veal with mushrooms and steak with Stilton sauce. Mature cheeses are also a good accompaniment.
