What kind of whisky is it?
Caol Ila presents Islay's peated character with a fresh, sweetly fruity and soft-bodied style. It is pale straw in colour, with a delicate balance among its flavours; the smoke is present but not harsh, making it appealing to both newcomers and experienced whisky drinkers alike.
What does Caol Ila 12 Year Old taste like?
The nose shows light citrus fruit, oily and medicinal tones with a fresh scent; smoke sits in the background here. With a splash of water, almond oil, olive oil and fragrant floral notes open up, along with peat, caramel and malt. The palate shows a sweet start, light and fragrant smoke, a touch of salt and hints of red fruit. The finish is long, sweetly smoky and slightly tangy.
How should it be served?
The producer recommends it neat, in a short whisky glass, with ice or a few drops of water as preferred.
What food does it pair with?
Its clean, salty smoke pairs well with fish and seafood, particularly oysters and smoked salmon, sushi, and mature cheeses.

- Keep wine bottles on their side and spirits upright.
- Serve white/rosé and sparkling wine at 6–12°C, and reds at 16–18°C.
