Beylerbeyi İncirden is a 45% ABV aniseed-flavoured distilled spirit made by triple-distilling fig distillate with aniseed in copper stills. It is produced at Sarper Damıtımcılık's Akhisar facility and also appears on the label as "Öyleli İncirden". Because Turkish regulations define raki as based on grape suma, this drink is officially classified not as raki but as a "distilled spirit"; it is nonetheless prepared and drunk in the same way as raki. The producer states no sugar or agricultural ethyl alcohol is added.
What does İncirden taste like?
According to a Degustasyon.net tasting, when drunk neat, the fruity aromas from fig come through intensely and vividly alongside aniseed. When water is added, spiced aromas and flavours become more pronounced. It has a full, slightly angular character that leaves a light dryness in the mouth. According to the producer, the fermented aromas characteristic of fig combine with aniseed to offer a distinctive experience.
How is it served?
Like raki, it can be diluted with cold water and drunk with ice; tasters recommend drinking it with plenty of water. If drunk neat, it should be well chilled.
What food does it pair with?
Diluted with water, it suits tables dominated by spiced mezes. Chilled and drunk neat, it is recommended to try alongside fruit and nuts.
