Baileys Original Irish Cream

Baileys Original Irish Cream is a 17% ABV Irish cream liqueur made with Irish whiskey, Irish cream and cocoa. The brand belongs to Diageo and the liqueur is produced at the Nangor Road facility in Dublin and at Mallusk in Northern Ireland. First launched in 1974, Baileys is considered the first Irish cream ever brought to market.

How is Baileys made?

Irish whiskey from different distilleries is homogenised with fresh cream into a stable emulsion, which keeps the cream and alcohol from separating in the bottle. Although the full recipe is kept secret, it is known to contain cocoa extract, sugar and vanilla. Most of the cream comes from Tirlán dairies in Ireland.

What does Baileys Original taste like?

The producer describes this liqueur as a meeting of Irish whiskey, Irish cream, rich chocolate and vanilla aromas. On the palate, a velvety, sweet cream texture stands out; behind the cocoa and vanilla, the gentle warmth of the whiskey is felt.

How is it served?

The most common serve is neat over plenty of ice. It can be added to coffee, used in layered shots such as the B-52, and used in creamy cocktails. As it contains cream, it should be noted that combining it with acidic mixers such as lemon juice or tonic can cause it to curdle.

What desserts does it pair with?

Drizzling it over ice cream, or serving a small glass alongside chocolate cake and pastries, is a classic use. It also makes a fitting complement to fruit desserts and creamy cakes.
