Shanky's Whip is a 33% ABV black Irish whiskey liqueur distilled, blended and bottled in County Cavan, Ireland. The producer describes it as "the original black liqueur and whiskey blend": Irish whiskey combined with another spirit produced in Ireland, along with vanilla and caramel flavours. Although it has a creamy taste profile, it contains no dairy.
What does Shanky's Whip taste like?
According to the producer, toffee, butter, cream, vanilla and sweet spice are pronounced on the nose, and these notes repeat on the palate. The palate is sweet and smooth, with vanilla and caramel to the fore while the whiskey's malty character stays in the background. The texture is velvety, without the harshness typical of whiskey.
How is it served?
It can be drunk neat over ice or served as a chilled shot. The brand's signature serve is an Irish coffee made with hot coffee, brown sugar and freshly whipped cream on top. Pouring it over vanilla ice cream to make an affogato-style dessert is also among the recommended uses.
What food does it pair with?
Its vanilla- and caramel-led character pairs well with chocolate desserts such as chocolate cake, brownies and caramel-based sweets. It can also be enjoyed after a meal with roasted hazelnuts and almonds.
