Sandeman Fine Tawny is a 19.5% ABV tawny-style Port wine from Portugal's Douro Valley, originating from DOC Porto. It is produced by Sandeman, part of Sogrape. It is selected from each year's lighter wines and aged in small oak barrels to develop its style.
What does Sandeman Fine Tawny taste like?
It has a clear, amber-tinged red colour; it is pale and light-bodied. Vanilla and ripened dried-fruit aromas open on the nose. The palate combines the fresh taste of red fruit with the complexity that comes from oak ageing, finishing well. It is made using the traditional Port method from Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cão and Tinta Amarela grapes; the wines are aged in oak barrels in the historic cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia.
How should it be served?
It is ready to drink and does not need decanting. It is served at 12–16°C; chilled, it can be chosen both as an aperitif and at the end of a meal. Once opened, the bottle should be consumed within eight weeks.
What food does it pair with?
It pairs very well with caramel desserts such as crème brûlée and tarte tatin. Strong blue cheeses such as Roquefort are also a classic accompaniment.
