Sandeman Port Ruby

Sandeman Fine Ruby is a 19.5% ABV ruby-style Port wine from Portugal's Douro Valley, originating from DOC Porto. It is produced by Sandeman, part of Sogrape; its style traces back to the robust ruby Ports George Sandeman shipped in 1790.

What does Sandeman Fine Ruby taste like?

It is bright ruby red in colour. Red fruit, plum and strawberry aromas come through cleanly on the nose. The palate is rich, rounded and balanced, with pronounced flavours of fresh plum and red fruit. It is made using the traditional Port method from Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cão and Tinta Amarela grapes: fermentation is halted by adding grape spirit at the desired sweetness. The wines making up the blend are between 2 and 5 years old and age in oak barrels in cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia; the average age is around three years.

How should it be served?

It is ready to drink and does not need decanting. It is recommended to serve at 14–16°C. Once opened, the bottle should be stored upright in a cool place and consumed within four weeks.

What food does it pair with?

It is traditionally paired with rich, creamy cheeses. It also pairs very well with chocolate desserts and fruit tarts; it can be chosen in place of an after-dinner liqueur.
