Mozart Dark Chocolate

Mozart Dark Chocolate is a 17% ABV bitter chocolate liqueur made by Mozart Distillerie in Salzburg, Austria. Unlike the brand's creamy varieties, it contains no dairy cream; the producer accordingly describes the liqueur as vegan, lactose-free and gluten-free. Highlighting the lightly smoky, herbal character of cocoa beans, the bottle is presented with an emphasis on being handmade using only natural ingredients.

What does Mozart Dark Chocolate taste like?

The dark, glossy brown liqueur has bitter chocolate and a light toffee note on the nose. On the palate, bittersweet cocoa, vanilla custard and caramel come together; the structure is full and round. A long, creamy finish is accompanied by a small hazelnut touch to the cocoa. The producer sums up the taste as smoky-herbal cocoa bean notes supported by vanilla, caramel and toffee.

How is it served?

It can be drunk neat, lightly chilled or over ice. Added to an espresso or hot chocolate, it sweetens the drink while preserving its cocoa character; it is also often used in sweet cocktails such as a chocolate martini. Adding it as a sauce over desserts such as ice cream, cake cream and chocolate mousse is also common.

What food does it pair with?

Its bittersweet character suits chocolate desserts best: chocolate mousse, brownies or bitter chocolate cake make a good match. Because of its hazelnut-like finish, it can also be enjoyed after dinner with toasted hazelnuts and almonds.
