Mercan Göbek Rakı is a 45% ABV triple-distilled Turkish heart-cut raki produced at the Alaşehir, Manisa facilities of Tariş Üzüm Birliği, founded in 1937. It is made with 100% Aegean Sultani grapes, Çeşme aniseed and spring water from Bozdağ, İzmir, and presented in a cork-stoppered bottle. Tariş is one of the Aegean's long-established agricultural marketing cooperative unions, known for its history of grape processing.
Suma obtained from Sultani grapes is triple-distilled together with Çeşme aniseed and rested for three months before bottling. No sugar is used in production. Spring water from Bozdağ is used to bring the raki down to its final alcohol strength.
It whitens well when water is added. Very intense aniseed and grape alcohol come through on the nose. Its alcohol is mature, and the palate is smooth, full and balanced; it offers a refreshing, easy-drinking raki profile.
It can be drunk chilled and neat, or in the traditional method, diluted with cold water in a narrow-waisted glass; ice is added last.
Aegean and Mediterranean mezes are its best companions: olive-oil herbs, white cheese and melon, samphire, grilled fish and other seafood.
