Hünkar Rakı Klasik is a 45% ABV Turkish raki in the traditional style from the Hünkar brand, brought to life through investment by North Cyprus-based Cipro Group. Because of its small-batch production, the brand describes itself as a "boutique raki"; alongside Klasik, the range also includes Yaş Üzüm and Diamond.
How is Hünkar Klasik made?
According to the producer, Hünkar rakis use grapes from the Aegean region and Anatolian aniseed; distillation is carried out entirely in copper stills, and the "göbek" (heart), the most valuable part of the distillation, is separated out. The raki is brought down to 45% with spring water, no sugar is used in production, and it rests for around six months before bottling.
What does Hünkar Klasik taste like?
The brand positions Klasik for those who love the traditional raki balance: a measured strength and a full aniseed taste. For those seeking a smoother profile with fresher aromas, it recommends the Yaş Üzüm version.
How is it served?
It is drunk in a narrow-waisted glass, with raki poured first, followed by cold water; it whitens once water is added. Ice is added last.
What food does it pair with?
Its full aniseed character pairs easily with classic mezes such as white cheese, melon, spicy ezme and charred vegetables, as well as grilled fish and meat skewers.
