Malibu Strawberry

Malibu Strawberry is a fruity rum liqueur made by adding strawberry aroma to a white rum base. This version of Pernod Ricard's Malibu brand, unlike the coconut-flavoured Malibu Original, focuses entirely on strawberry; the producer specifically states it carries no coconut taste. The bottle sold in Europe is 18% ABV and is of Spanish origin.

About the brand

Malibu's story began in 1978 as Coco Rico; the brand launched under the name Malibu in 1980. The white rum used in the drink was for many years produced in Barbados; today production mostly takes place in Canada, with a portion made in the US and Spain. The rum is distilled from a sweet syrup obtained from sugar cane refining.

What does Malibu Strawberry taste like?

The producer describes the taste as ripe, juicy strawberry; the finish is sweet and soft. The sweet-sour freshness of the strawberry combines with the rum's light character to create a fruit-forward profile suited to summer drinking.

How is it served?

It can be drunk well chilled over ice, or made into a long drink with soda, coconut water or fruit juices. The producer recommends cocktails such as the strawberry daiquiri, Strawberry Bay Breeze and spritz.

What desserts does it pair with?

Its strawberry aroma makes a natural match with fruity desserts, strawberry cheesecake and vanilla ice cream. White chocolate desserts and fresh fruit platters are also good companions alongside a chilled glass.
