Lokal Rakı Göbek is a 45% ABV triple-distilled heart-cut Turkish raki from Deva İçecek's Derya Kuzusu range. Production uses fresh-grape suma obtained from Narince grapes from Tokat and Sultana grapes from the Aegean region; the name "göbek" (heart) comes from the middle section of the distillation, considered the most valuable.
How is Lokal Göbek made?
Suma distilled from Narince and Sultana grapes is combined with aniseed from Denizli-Acıpayam, and the raki is distilled a total of three times. The producer emphasises that none of the Derya Kuzusu rakis contain added agricultural ethyl alcohol or sugar. The wave- and fish-scale-motif bottle references the raki-and-fish tradition.
What does Lokal Göbek taste like?
It turns intensely white when water is added. Rested alcohol and aniseed aromas are pronounced on the nose; on the palate, grape flavour comes to the fore. It is a full-bodied, substantial raki.
How is it served?
Chilled, it is drunk neat or diluted with cold water, in a narrow-waisted glass.
What food does it pair with?
Thanks to its substantial character, it holds up well at tables dominated by spiced mezes, grilled meats and kebabs. Fish and seafood are also a classic pairing, echoed by its bottle.
